Disarm Anambra Vigilante Service , Ngige urges IGP

Following hospitalisation of two
members of his campaign organisation,
Izuchukwu Oraelosi and Chuma
Igbonwelundu , from gunshot injuries, All
Progressives Congress ( APC)
governorship candidate , Chris Ngige , on
Sunday alerted the Inspector Inspector
of Police ( IGP ) , Mohammed Abubakar , of
the growing rate of insecurity in the
state .
He also urged him to immediately
disarm the Anambra Vigilante Services
( AVS) , which he alleged, has been
programmed by the Peter Obi
administration as its attack dog .
During an interactive session with
journalists in Awka , Ngige maintained

that “violent attacks on members of our
campaign organisation are one too
many , and our initial investigations has
confirmed our worst fears, that Governor
Peter Obi is using the armed members of
Anambra Vigilante Services as his
attack dogs to orchestrate this violent
intimidations and attacks on perceived
political opponents .
‘’ Mr. Obi ’s game plan of attempting to
undermine peaceful campaigns leading
to a fair and violent - free elections, is a
threat to democracy .
“ APC will resist any attempt to abort the
desires of Anambra people for a
peaceful , free and fair elections that will
usher in a people - focussed
administration ” .
In a statement on the attacks , Charles
Amilo , Director , Media and Publicity of
the Ngige 2014 Campaign Organisation
confirmed that Chuma Igbonwelundu,
Ihiala Youth Leader of the Ngige 2014
Campaign Organisation , was shot
several times by one Cornelius Ihedigbo ,
said to be the Chief Security Officer of
the AVS at Ihiala around 9 . pm October
17 , while the identity of attackers of Mr.
Oraelosi , Deputy Director , Media of the
Campaign Organisation , has not been
established .
According to Amilo , Obi is either playing
politics with the security situation in the
state , or the huge budget for security
vote has been misapplied.
‘’ Whether Gov. Obi is playing politics
with the security situation or has
misapplied the huge sums allocated to
security , our conclusion is that he has
failed to secure the lives and property of
the citizens of Anambra State .
‘’ We are therefore urging the IGP ,
Mohammed Abubakar , to come to the
aid of the state as we progressively
move towards the November 16 , 2013
election .
“ We are equally concerned that the AVS
has not been disarmed as the law
requires .
“ This is a serious cause for concern as
the AVS has been compromised and
have been programmed as the attack
dog of the Peter Obi administration ”.
