Muhammad Bello
The contest for political offices in the
forthcoming elections in 2015 are going to be
serious considering the challenges of dearth of
infrastructure and unemployment in the
country.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), Gen. Muhammad Buhari (rtd), who was
among the leaders of the party that were in
Port Harcourt to woo the state governor,
Chibuike Amaechi, to their party stated this at
Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday.
Buhari, who spoke ex-tempore, noted with
concern that despite about 15 years of
democratic rule, there was nothing to write
home about in terms of development across
the length and breadth of the country.
He said it was time Nigerians took bold steps
to advance the country.
"We are once again at crossroads and
whichever way you choose to look at it, 2015
is going to be another watershed in Nigeria’s
politics. What we understand from 2005 to
date is that no single can meet txhe ruling
party.
"If we remain divided, we’ll be taken one by
one and dealt with piecemeal," he cautioned.
Apart from lack of infrastructure, Buhari said
the high rate of unemployment in the country,
which he pledged the APC would check, was
one area that would make electorates have a
re-think about their choices of leaders.
He also said: “Nigeria is at a crossroad and
that is why we decided to come together to
rescue this country from destruction. We must
get together and get this country moving
again. I congratulate Amaechi for providing
education for the people of the state.
"We decided to come together to ensure that
we salvage this country from misgovernance,
God has endowed this country, everybody
knows about that, with great riches; material
and human. We must acquire the capability as
a people to organise ourselves and manage it
efficiently. We must get together and get this
country to move again," he pointed out.”
Describing Amaechi as a great bridge builder,
whose state was lucky to have his (Buhari)
petroleum minister, Prof. Tam David-West, a
great asset and academic guru, as a citizen,
Buhari applauded the governor for making
heavy investment in the development of
education in the state.
“We are here to seek understanding and
support from you through your leader,
Governor Amaechi. I worked with one of your
greatest assets, Prof Tam David West," Buhari
stated.
